For the site of a church damaged in the second world war and later demolished the city staged a competition to design a new public plaza. Originally isolated by streets by on all sides the space is first re-integrated within the urban fabric. New trees enclose the plaza. Finally a new structure arises in the place of the former church.
The plaza design envisions a variety of activities and events in all seasons.
The structure recalls the space of the historic church nave. Within this space new public facilities are housed, including a public toilet at ground level and a community room on the upper level.
